Bugatti solid-state battery 2030 Debut Expected in New Model, Rimac Confirms
With the launch of the hybrid V16-powered Tourbillon, Bugatti cemented its commitment to internal combustion. However, the ultra-luxury automaker is making plans for a deep future in electrification. The Bugatti solid-state battery 2030 debut is now expected in a new model, according to Rimac Group Chief Operating Officer Nurdin Pitarevic.
Pitarevic confirmed that Rimac Technology is in the advanced stages of developing solid-state batteries (SSBs), which are expected to be commercially available by the end of the decade. Their first application? A new Bugatti model slated for 2030.

Here is a look at why this technology is a game-changer and the two likely applications for Molsheim’s ultimate machine.
The Solid-State Advantage
Solid-state batteries are currently the “holy grail” of EV technology, swapping liquid lithium for a solid electrolyte. This switch results in batteries that are safer, potentially more sustainable, and offer huge density benefits.
- Performance Benefits: Rimac’s SSB is designed to be up to 20 percent lighter and deliver 15 to 25 percent more energy density than today’s best liquid lithium-ion cells. This is crucial for a hypercar, where every kilogram counts against speed and agility.
- Production Timeline: Rimac, in collaboration with ProLogium and Mitsubishi, expects to complete internal validation testing by late 2026, with the first production applications ready for limited production by 2030.

Two Paths for the 2030 Bugatti
The production cycle of the Tourbillon is expected to run through 2029. This timing makes the 2030 debut of the solid-state battery ideal for one of two major applications:

The Bugatti solid-state battery 2030 reveal confirms that Bugatti is prepared for any legislative eventuality, offering the best of both combustion and electric technology. It ensures the brand can deliver an EV that “blows people out of the water” when the time is right, without having to compromise on the extreme performance that is its defining characteristic.
