Mercedes’ New All-Electric GLC: A Closer Look at the 2027 Model

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its new 2027 GLC EV, marking a major shift in the brand’s electric vehicle strategy. Moving away from the “jelly bean” shape of the EQ lineup, this new electric SUV looks much more like its popular gas-powered sibling. We were given a ride-along in a prototype and can confirm it’s packed with serious power, advanced technology, and a design that is both sleek and familiar.

A New Design and High-Tech Interior

The GLC EV will feature a handsome new design language, with an upgraded grille that can light up with 192 LEDs and the iconic Mercedes star logo in both the headlights and taillights. Inside, the car is all about screens, with an optional 39-inch MBUX Hyperscreen that spans the entire dashboard. The interior also has a two-story center console, sleek finishes, and optional certified vegan surfaces.

Power, Range, and Charging

The first model to launch will be the GLC 400 4MATIC with a powerful 94-kWh battery. This version will have two electric motors, producing a combined 483 hp and 596 lb-ft of torque, and can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. The car is expected to have a real-world range of nearly 400 miles and can fast-charge from 10% to 80% in about 24 minutes.

Here is a summary of the key specs for the GLC 400 4MATIC:

Handling and Practicality

From a passenger’s perspective, the power delivery is quick and smooth. The GLC EV comes with an optional air suspension and rear-axle steering, which make it handle more like a small sedan than a large SUV on winding roads. It also has a special “Terrain mode” that lifts the car by nearly two inches for off-road use. For practicality, it features a frunk with 4.5 cubic feet of space and can tow up to 5,300 pounds.

Pricing and Launch

While pricing has not yet been announced, the 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC 400 4MATIC will be available in late 2026. A less-powerful model, the GLC 300+, will be launched shortly after in early 2027. This new electric GLC is a clear signal that Mercedes is moving forward with its electric lineup, offering a combination of luxury, power, and practicality that is set to compete directly with other premium electric SUVs.
