2027 Chevrolet Bolt Super Cruise Adds $5,000 to Price Tag
Deliveries of the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt will begin early next year, and while it will officially be the cheapest EV in the country (starting at $28,595 MSRP), adding GM’s best driver-assistance technology comes at a steep price. The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt Super Cruise option significantly raises the total cost of the small EV.
This system, which allows for hands-free driving on dedicated mapped roads, is a $3,255 option on its own. However, the true cost is much greater, as it requires buyers to also purchase the expensive Technology Package, effectively increasing the Bolt’s base price by nearly 17%.
Here is a breakdown of the costs and whether the upgrade is worth the investment.
The True Cost of Hands-Free Driving
Super Cruise is not a standalone option on the entry-level Bolt LT trim. It is bundled with a required package that adds thousands to the final bill.
The required Technology Package adds useful features like an HD surround-view camera and a rear camera mirror. Still, the total of $34,940 for an LT with Super Cruise puts it near the price of the base Chevy Equinox EV (which starts around $34,995 and offers a superior 319-mile range).
Super Cruise vs. Rivals
The high cost of the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt Super Cruise option reflects the expense of the sensor and camera technology required for Level 2 hands-free systems.
Despite the high cost, the Bolt still offers Super Cruise for far less than the larger Equinox EV, where the same feature requires stepping up to higher trims and more expensive packages, resulting in a vehicle cost closer to $50,000.
Final Verdict
The standard 210-horsepower 2027 Chevrolet Bolt Super Cruise-less model remains the best value in the EV segment, with a GM-estimated 255 miles of range. However, the decision to bundle Super Cruise with the Technology Package—a system that could be added to the Bolt’s price for almost $5,000—forces buyers in this price-sensitive segment to pay for features they may not want or need, limiting the appeal of the hands-free tech to those who regularly drive long distances.
