1100-HP BMW M2 Drift Car Goes Full Hoonigan Inside Munich Factory
BMW and the Red Bull Driftbrothers have taken drifting to an extreme new level, showcasing the massive power and precision of the BMW M2 Drift Competition by sliding it through the active production plant in Munich. The short film features professional drifter Elias Hountondji navigating the factory floor, weaving past millions of dollars worth of machinery, forklifts, and assembly lines in a display that is part precision driving, part choreography, and completely unprecedented.
Not CGI: Drifting Through the Factory
The stunt video is a blend of adrenaline-fueled driving and cinematic storytelling, all set within the controlled chaos of a working manufacturing plant.
- The Stunt: Drifter Elias Hountondji slides the 1,100-horsepower coupe through BMW’s Group Plant Munich, starting at the main gate.
- “Rebuilding” on the Move: The car begins as an incomplete M2, and through clever editing and real precision driving, it gets “rebuilt” on the move, collecting its hood, doors, trunk lid, and spoiler while continuing to drift across various factory floors and multiple levels.
- Millimeter Precision: Hountondji described the project as one of the most complex stunts he has ever done, requiring “millimeter-level precision” and demanding that he was “always all focus because [he] knew what was at stake”. A single mistake could have caused “millions of dollars in damage and a complete production halt”.
- Engineering Confidence: The entire shoot was conducted under controlled conditions by professionals, combining entertainment value with a bold demonstration of BMW’s engineering confidence.
Building the “Ultimate Drift Machine”
The M2 Drift Competition is a one-off performance machine built specifically for professional competition.
- Foundation: It is built from the ground up at the 229performance workshop on a G82 chassis.
- Extreme Power: It is powered by a heavily modified S58 twin-turbo straight-six engine. While the stock M2 delivers 473 hp, this drift machine makes over 1,100 hp and 922 lb-ft (1,250 Nm) of torque.
- Internal Upgrades: The S58 engine was heavily reworked for sustained drift abuse, featuring an enlarged cooling system, a reinforced and modified engine block, and additional chassis bracing to handle extreme heat and lateral loads.
- Exterior: The body features a full carbon-fiber body kit, wide aero, and aggressive cooling ducts.
- Competition Debut: Hountondji will debut the car in the 2026 Drift Masters European Championship.

The “factory drift” is not only a successful marketing statement showcasing BMW’s motorsport know-how, but also a chance for fans to see the bespoke vehicle in person.
- On Display: The BMW M2 Drift Competition will be on display at BMW Welt in Munich from October 23 to November 5, 2025.
The complex stunt, executed with nerve and engineering brilliance, serves as a high-octane farewell to the combustion engine assembly area, as BMW’s Munich plant prepares for its shift toward electrification.
